Cincinnati Bengals Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
Johnathan Joseph gives the Bengals a player to eventually replace Tory James. Joseph is a raw athlete who will need to be eased into the defensive game plan. Frostee Rucker was inconsistent at times at USC, but he has pass-rush skills that the Bengals will come to like a lot. Reggie McNeal is an interesting pick in the sixth round, especially if the Bengals can develop him into a wideout.

Overall Grade: B-  Not a bad draft but not overly exciting either.

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
1 24 Joseph, Johnathan CB 5-11 192 South Carolina
Jonathon is one of the fastest players in the draft. He has good strength for a relatively skinny corner. Adjusts well to the ball and has good hands. Although Joseph probably won't make an immediate impact, he has a huge long term upside...more
2 55 Whitworth, Andrew OT 6-7 327 Louisiana State
He has excellent size for an offensive tackle at nearly 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds, but he is a limited athlete who struggles to move and block well out in space. Explosive speed rushers will beat him around the corner, and he can't slide back inside to cut off the quick inside pass-rush move. Much better suited to guard in our opinion.
3 91 Rucker, Frostee DE 6-3 267 Southern California
Rucker is a good athlete who has consistently shown a knack for making plays through effort, determination and hustle. He plays faster than his 40-time and that helps him to chase down running backs in backside pursuit.
4 123 Peko, Domata DT 6-3 306 Michigan State
Peko is a good athlete with the quick feet to defeat one-on-one pass blocks and get pressure on the quarterback. However, Peko is not a consistently aggressive player and it greatly hinders his overall production.
5 157 Nicholson, A. J. ILB 6-1 253 Florida State
Nicholson is a smart and instinctive linebacker, who is consistently around the ball and makes a lot of tackles on inside runs. However, Nicholson is a limited athlete, who lacks the playing speed and athleticism to make plays outside of a small area.
6 193 McNeal, Reggie QB 6-2 197 Texas A&M
McNeal is an excellent all-around athlete who is best suited to make the switch from quarterback to either receiver or defensive back because it's doubtful he can make it as an NFL quarterback.
7 209 Kilmer, Ethan WR 6-1 204 Penn State
Kilmer is a very interesting prospect because he began the 2005 season as a backup receiver at Penn State and only had 15 catches for the entire season. However, he is a monster special teams player who can turn field position battles on his own.
7 231 Brazell, Bennie WR 6-3 176 Louisiana State
Brazell is a very explosive athlete with legitimate stretch-the-field playing speed. He has shown the ability to get off the ball and into his routes quickly and can really accelerate to full speed very fast.
