Chicago Bears Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
Ricky Manning has to be factored into the draft evaluation after giving up a third-round choice for him. Top pick Danieal Manning is a good talent with first-rate flexibility. He can help the Bears at cornerback or safety and is an excellent return specialist. Then again, second-rounder Devin Hester has a lot of talent, but he has no true position beyond special teams returner which Manning also excels at so what's the point? J.D. Runnels will develop into a starting fullback quickly.

Overall Grade: C-

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
2 42 Manning, Danieal SS 5-11 201 Abilene Christian
Manning is a very good athlete with the playing speed and explosive closing burst to make impact plays all over the field.
2 57 Hester, Devin WR 5-11 189 Miami (Fla.)
is a raw and tremendously explosive natural athlete who is a legitimate big-play threat every time he touches the ball, but he is going to need to improve his routes and become more consistent maintaining his focus to reach his potential as a receiver.
3 73 Dvoracek, Dusty DT 6-3 305 Oklahoma
He is a thick bodied defensive tackle with the big arms and thick lower body that you want in a strong defensive tackle. He is a also however a limited, straight-line athlete who lacks the agility to change directions quickly and to chase down running plays in pursuit on outside runs.
4 120 Williams, Jamar ILB 6-0 250 Arizona State
Williams is a heady and instinctive linebacker who sniffs out the play well. He does a good job of getting outside to disrupt screen plays before they can get started.
5 159 Anderson, Mark DE 6-4 258 Alabama
Anderson is a quick-footed athlete with the playing speed to make plays all over the field because he consistently hustles and chases from the snap to the whistle.
6 195 Runnels, J.D. FB 5-11 235 Oklahoma
Runnels is a really tough fullback with the smarts, instincts and intangibles that are ideal in a fullback.
6 200 Reed, Tyler G 6-4 315 Penn State
Reed is a tough and highly competitive guard who gets the most out of his ability, but he is stiff and does not work out very well off the field.
