Carolina Panthers Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
The Panthers always seem to draft well and this year is no exception. As usual, the Panthers picked good football players. First-round pick DeAngelo Williams and Richard Marshall, the team's second-round pick, are both good players who will make an immediate impact.

Overall Grade: A

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
1 27 Williams, DeAngelo RB 5-9 213 Memphis
DeAngelo Williams possesses incredible athleticism, shows great balance and burst, and He also has great straight-line speed and acceleration when getting through the holes in the line. Has the ability to run around or over tacklers so long as they don't wrap up in time the big question with Williams remains durability as he has been injured almost every year...more
2 58 Marshall, Richard CB 5-11 188 Fresno State
Marshall is a good athlete with the size and long arms to be very effective in all types of coverage. He has the quick feet to backpedal fast and when he stays over his feet, he can transition and close quickly on passes. He has the smooth, flexible hips to turn and run without losing a step and can stay with a receiver all over the field when he maintains his focus/concentration. He does a good job of using his front arm to break up passes and can cut in front of the receiver to make the tough interception.
3 88 Anderson, James OLB 6-3 230 Virginia Tech
Anderson is a very good athlete with the outstanding playing speed to chase down plays all over the field. He does a very good job of maintaining backside containment on plays away, and when the quarterback boots back to his side to throw to the tight end, he is right there and shuts down the play.
3 89 Butler, Rashad OT 6-5 292 Miami (Fla.)
Butler is a good athlete with the feet to slide out easily to protect the corner from speed/edge rushers and, when he stays in shuffle, he can maintain and eliminate his man.
4 121 Salley, Nate FS 6-1 219 Ohio State
Salley does not jump off the film, but physically he has everything to be a good starting safety in the NFL -- size, quick feet, acceleration, flexibility and playing speed.
5 155 King, Jeff TE 6-5 256 Virginia Tech
King is a smart football player who has been a productive receiver. He has good height for a tight end and the hands and body control to make tough catches.
7 234 Montgomery, Will G 6-3 300 Virginia Tech
Montgomery is a player who is going to be drafted because of his size/speed ratio, but his 40-time is deceiving because he is a straight-line player who lacks good all-around athleticism.
7 237 McClover, Stanley DE 6-2 261 Auburn
McClover is a good athlete with the foot quickness, agility and explosiveness to consistently get pressure on the quarterback when he rushes the passer aggressively.
