The
Bills really did some nice work in the
defensive backfield. Safety Donte
Whitner should be able to step in
immediately and start next to Troy
Vincent. The Bills can take it slow with
Ko Simpson and groom him to take over
for Vincent down the line. Ashton
Youboty was a very nice pickup in the
third round, giving Buffalo a nickel
back who can eventually develop into a
starting cornerback. They did reach a
little though with both of their first
round picks. especially Whitner, as they
could have traded to one of the teams
that wanted a QB and picked up a 2nd
rounder they are very good players just
drafted a little too high.
Whitner is an excellent safety, and could have an
immediate impact at that position. But, he may also
have the talent to project as a cornerback for some
teams, but he will need a lot of work to make that
move. He can make an impact much more quickly at the
FS slot. He has the tools to project to CB, FS or SS
eventually...more
McCargo is an
explosive natural athlete with
the quickness off the ball to
shoot gaps and get backfield
penetration consistently. Even
when he does not make the
tackle, he disrupts plays before
they get started.
Ashton has good size and exceptional
athletic ability. He is a solid
cover man and shows good
footwork that will allow him to
play the position well. He went
up every day in practice against Santonio Holme, which
shows he has the talent to cover top players at the
position. He also has good ball skills and should
prove to be a top corner in the league some day...more
A true sophomore who is able to enter the draft this
year because he sat out 2003 before enrolling in
college, thus making it three years since he
graduated from high school. Ko is older than the
average prospect with his experience and will be a
23-year-old rookie in '06 who really has very little
experience. Huge risk/reward...more
Despite being
stiff and lacking quick feet, he
has good balance and can stay on
his feet and maintain blocks out
in space much better than most
limited athletes.
A very productive
linebacker who was involved in
one play out of every 7.3 snaps,
but is clearly an undersized
linebacker and it hinders his
ability to consistently make
plays when he has to deal with
blockers.
Merz is a limited
athlete and, on film, looks
overweight. He lacks quick feet
which hinders his ability to get
set up quickly in pass
protection --
explosive-off-the-ball defensive
tackles cause him problems
