Baltimore Ravens Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
This is always a team that drafts well. This year is no exception with players like defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. He should be immediately plugged into the defensive line. Baltimore also added a lot of depth at various positions with guys like David Pittman and Demetrius Williams who is a heck of a prospect in his own right. They did fail to address the QB situation but that will probably be taking care of itself. The Ravens always seem to find just good football players Chris Chester is a good example. He is going to be a monster player he just has the smarts and desire to be good which is usually underrated by teams when drafting.

Overall Grade: A

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
1 12 Ngata, Haloti DT 6-4 337 Oregon
Ngata has a powerful build and can be a run stuffer on the next level. He also has some quickness to collapse the pocket. Coaches at Oregon have said Ngata was the best defensive player to ever come through the program. Double-teamed on virtually every snap and alternated between brilliance and what seemed to be complacency. Rarely stopped by one player. Ngata's 2005 season was his most dominant. He was the first Oregon player since 1962 to earn consensus All-American honors by posting 61 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. He was recognized with the Pac-10's Co-Defensive MVP honors, as well as ranking as a finalist for both the Bronko Nagurski and Outland awards...more
2 56 Chester, Chris C 6-3 302 Oklahoma
A developmental prospect with virtually no experience as he spent most of his collegiate career lined up at tight end. Nonetheless he is intriguing as he learned the position quickly and played very well. It says something about a player if they can change positions and start in one year in the Big Twelve...more
3 87 Pittman, David CB 5-11 182 Northwestern State
Pittman is a small-school prospect who really grabbed everyone's attention with his performance at the Senior Bowl where he showed off his natural athleticism and toughness.
4 111 Williams, Demetrius WR 6-2 198 Oregon
Demetrius Williams has the height that more teams are starting to look for in their receivers, and good speed to go with it. His physical abilities and potential give him a huge upside, making Demetrius an enticing prospect...more
4 132 Daniels, P.J. RB 5-10 210 Georgia Tech
Daniels is a well-built runner who has better strength than you expect for a shorter running back. He runs hard with the ball, can deliver a blow to a tackler and runs through arm/grab tackles. He tends to run too upright and doesn't have explosive speed.
5 146 Landry, Dawan FS 6-1 219 Georgia Tech
Landry is a tough safety who comes up quickly in run support and will make hard, physical hits/tackles. He can be overly aggressive though and misses way too many tackles out in space to be acceptable this is because he wants to stop and plant to deliver the hit and can therefore be juked.
5 166 Sypniewski, Quinn TE 6-6 265 Colorado
Sypniewski is a tall, well-built tight end with good natural strength. He runs sharp, efficient routes and has shown the ability to pluck the ball with a defender trying to climb over his back. He is limited somewhat in his playing speed so he doesn't make big plays downfield as a receiver.
6 203 Koch, Sam P 6-0 223 Nebraska
He has the leg strength to kick the team out of bad spots when he has to punt out of the end zone.
6 208 Martin, Derrick CB 5-10 201 Wyoming
Martin is a very good athlete with the foot quickness, explosiveness and playing speed to accelerate to full speed in a flash and can stay on a receiver's hip down the field.
7 219 LaCasse, Ryan OLB 6-2 254 Syracuse
LaCasse is a player who is stuck between two positions and is best suited to being a pass-rush specialist in the NFL
