Ronnie Brown - 2005 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT - RB  - Auburn

Headshot - Brown Ronnie_072004

College: Auburn
Position: Running Back
Class: Senior
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 230
40-Yard: 4.45
Birth date: 12/12/81
Quick Summary:   Brown's versatility fits the pro game very well and he should cause mismatches in the passing game. He may not have the explosiveness of teammate Carnell Williams or the power of Cedric Benson from Texas, but he has better all-around skills than either of them and in our opinion, will ultimately be more successful at the pro level.

Ronnie Brown has become one of the top prospects in the 2005 NFL Draft. He hasn’t gotten the full attention he deserves because he splits carries with another top prospect in Cadillac Williams, but Brown has made the most of his opportunities.

Brown is one of the more complete backs in this draft. Brown has great size and very good speed. He is a physical runner that is very tough to bring down. He will move the pile an extra two yards once he is hit. But Brown also has the cutting ability to make the first defender miss, and the speed to get to the perimeter and break the long run. Sharing the backfield with Williams may be a blessing in disguise for Brown. To get on the field, Brown has lined up at FB quite a bit during his career, and it has made him a very good blocker. He’s shown to be a solid lead blocker, so picking up blitzes in the backfield is something he already knows how to do. Ronnie is also a quality receiver out of the backfield, displaying soft hands when asked to catch the ball.

Brown is a guy everyone would love to have on their team, as he will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

I cant see any big weaknesses with Brown. One can say that he hasn’t had to be the focal point of the offense, but during his sophomore year he proved he could be the man if needed. You could also spin that as a positive, as Brown doesn’t have the wear and tear most power backs have coming out of college.

You have to admire the fact that he went back to school despite being a potential first rounder after his junior season knowing he would be the backup and have to split carries with Williams.

Strengths: Great size, strength, and speed.  Excellent receiver out of the backfield who runs good routes and has reliable hands.  Is a very good blocker and displays good vision and hits the hole hard.  Can run over defenders or run away from them.  Excellent character will be an asset to any team.

Weaknesses: Never had the opportunity to be the featured back in college.   Not an explosive runner and isn't as exciting as Cadillac Williams is.  Not as flashy either and will be a better teammate.

Stats: In four seasons at Auburn, Ronnie Brown rushed 461 times for 2,641 yards (5.7 ypc) and 27 touchdowns. He also caught 49 passes for 619 yards and two touchdowns.

During his senior season, he rushed for 748 yards on 107 carries (7.0 ypc) and seven touchdowns. He also caught 25 passes for 264 yards and one TD.
