2005 NFL Draft Player Profiles
Alex Barron
College: Florida State 40-Yard: 5.1 Notable:

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden feels that Alex Barron could become the best offensive tackle that he has ever coached, which is high praise considering that tackles Walter Jones (the sixth pick in the 1997 draft) and Tra Thomas (eleventh in 1998) also played under Bowden

Position: OT Height: 6-6
Class: Senior Weight: 308
Birthdate: September 28, 1982
Alex Barron has a great offensive lineman frame. He is tall, with very long arms, and is lanky, which shows room for growth potential. He is a very good athlete, displaying very good agility in pass protection. He slides well in either direction, and can adjust on the move. His long arms also allow him to lock on to the defender and keep them from getting under his pads. Florida St. often rotates their tackles during games, so Barron has experience on both sides of the line.
Draft Notes
Strengths: He has the natural gifts you look for in a tackle, and the athleticism you cannot teach. Has very long arms...Excellent in pass protection...Very quick feet and good balance...A natural left tackle...Good size...Still has a lot of upside and potential as he has missed a lot of time, that can also be a big negative.
Weaknesses: May not have that killer instinct and doesn't always finish his blocks. Doesn't have a lot of experience and is still raw.  He doesn’t play with much strength or aggression when asked to run block. Has to work on mastering the nuances of the position.  Barron has been plagued by injury problems throughout his college career – he redshirted after injuring his knee in the 2000 preseason, broke a bone in his hand in 2001, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in the spring of 2003, and missed the Seminoles' last spring practice with shoulder surgery. In addition to his durability problems, Barron could stand to get stronger, He can be pushed around by college lineman, so it is something he is really going to have to address before he lines up in the NFL.
Notes: Widely regarded as the top offensive lineman available. Not in the same class as Tony Boselli, Jon Ogden or Orlando Pace but may be just a notch below. Should be one of the elite players in the '05 Draft. Meaning obviously that this is a very weak draft for Tackles.  Rated as the current number four pick in our mock draft
