Drew Tate
ends career with loss, some redemption
in 24-26 loss to Texas in the Alamo Bowl
Recap:
Even in defeat, Iowa quarterback Drew
Tate found redemption. Tate, whose final
season included a myriad of injuries and
bubbling tensions with teammates and
coaches, capped his tumultuous career by
doing every thing he could to lead
upset-minded Iowa past No. 18 Texas in
the Alamo Bowl Saturday.
Tate's 274
yards passing and two TDs weren't
enough, as Texas prevailed 26-24. But
Tate's final performance was a fitting
end to a career that, ultimately, had
more high points than lows.
``Drew's had
a tough year in a lot of regards,
physically, mentally. He gave us every
chance to win today,'' Iowa coach Kirk
Ferentz said. ``He played extremely
well.''
After
throwing for 42 touchdowns - and one
memorable Hail Mary to lead Iowa past
LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl -
during his first two seasons at Iowa,
Tate entered 2006 as the unquestioned
leader of Iowa's offense and a potential
Heisman Trophy candidate....more
