Houston Rockets 2006-07 Preview

The franchise appears to be at a crossroads of uncertainty.  This time last year, the team appeared to be headed towards the league’s elite.  Now, it’s uncertain whether they will even make the playoffs.

The Rockets are one of only six teams in the entire NBA to have not won a playoff series in over a decade, and the inept front office may waste away the primes of both Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming

The Rockets big problem is staying healthy, so what did they do, they went out and signed Bonzi Wells. Wells has missed 53 games over the past three seasons and averaged about 12 points a game over that span.

McGrady is who this team’s hopes rely upon.  If he’s healthy (along with Yao), the team will win 50 games.  The question is whether he is truly healthy and there are a lot of doubts about that.  He seems to have lost a great deal of his athleticism and settles mainly for jumpshots these days.  However, when at full health, he is one of the top 3 talents in the game

Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady played just 31 games together a year ago (according to ESPN.com); they were 21-10 in those games, according to the Houston Chronicle. But can they stay healthy? If not, the Rockets will struggle, because they have little depth. Besides Wells, the Rockets' scoring off the bench is limited to second-year guard Luther Head and rookie Steve Novak, neither of whom have proven to be consistent scorers.
