Spurs - Pistons Tidbits: |
 |
The Spurs held opponents to only 88.4 points a game, which was
tops in the league. |
 |
Six years after they won their first championship, the
Spurs are back in the finals. The Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago
Bulls are the only other teams to make at least three finals
appearances in the past 15 years. |
 |
Tim Duncan looks to claim his 3rd NBA
Championship... None of his teammates from the first Championship
team of 1999 remain – David Robinson, along with Avery Johnson,
Sean Elliott and Mario Elie has all retired. Of the players who
helped Duncan win the 2003 championship, only three are still with
him - Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Bruce Bowen. |
 |
Duncan was the MVP of his first NBA Finals, was the MVP
again in 2003 when the Spurs won their second league championship…
Can he do it one more time? |
 |
The Pistons are gunning for back-to-back
titles. |
 |
The season series was split 1-1 |
 |
The Pistons' regular starting lineup (Chauncey
Billups, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace and
Ben Wallace) played 1,397 minutes together this season – more than
any other five-man combination on any NBA team. |
 |
Detroit has held six opponents to 66 points or
fewer in playoff games over the last five years. All other teams
combined have done so three times during that span. |

The Stage Is Set… Spurs To Meet Pistons In Finals
After a long, hard fought series against the Miami Heat, the Detroit
Pistons are returning to NBA Finals, thanks to their 88-82 win on
Monday night in the winner-take-all Game 7.
Though Shaquille O’Neal pumped in 27-points, and Dwayne Wade added
20, Detroit’s experience was the key in this win. Despite being
down by six to start the 4th quarter, the Pistons never
got flustered and remained calm… handling the situation like any
other game.
Detroit knew their backs were up against the wall playing in Miami…
being a road team hasn’t been a friendly setting for visiting teams,
especially in Game 7’s – but the Pistons defied those odds, being
the first East road team in 23-years to win Game 7. In 90 Game 7’s
in NBA history, the home team had won 74 times…
The stage is now set with the San Antonio meeting the defending
champions Pistons for the NBA title… Both the Spurs and Pistons
stopped the two teams (Suns, Miami) with the best regular season
record, all without the benefit of a homecourt advantage.
No doubt, these finals will see some of the best defense and
offense… both teams are very strong, and are solid defensive teams.
The Spurs allowed just 88.4 points per game, while the Pistons
allowed 89.5. Offensively, both teams know how to turn up the heat,
and each have a group of players that can put up big numbers each
night.
One word sums up this series for both teams… versatility. The Spurs
and Pistons have just that. Without a doubt, this could be one of
the best NBA Championship Series in a very long time.
Both teams statistically are evenly matched…

Keys to the Game…
Tim Duncan
– Duncan is well rested – which is a big plus for the Spurs…
unfortunately though, Duncan will be up against Ben and Rasheed
Wallace. Against Miami, the Wallace boys were able to handle
Shaquille O’Neal – Duncan though is much more agile, and can make
things happen on the court.
The Guards
– the top backcourts have reached the final round. Reigning Finals
MVP Chauncey Billups comes off his best game, and will be facing
Tony Parker. Parker, inconsistent during the regular season looks
to have finally found consistency in his game during the playoffs.
For the Spurs, this is a very positive part of their game.
Defensive Specialists
– Tayshaun Prince likely drawing Manu Ginobili, and Bruce Bowen
against Rick Hamilton. Whoever steps up his game as the defensive
specialist gives his team additional fuel to take home the
championship.
The Bench
– The Spurs have the much deeper bench, which could be play a very
important part in this series.
San Antonio 4, Detroit 2:
The
Pistons might have the better starting five. The Spurs have the
better bench and offensive... The Spurs have a bit
more, as well as the home-court advantage. Which is why they'll
claim their third title in the past seven seasons.
