Barry Bonds, alleged steroid cheat, is the pariah of MLB, now more than ever. Until now, not one MLB wants to come near the home run champ.

Bonds never dreamed he would see this day. He is the home run "king" without a MLB team. The San Francisco Giants and Bonds have parted ways, leaving behind innuendo, speculation and a different kind of "roid-rage." The kind of rage that makes MLB finally say enough, or does it?

The sad part is that MLB is not saying no to Barry Bonds because Barry Bonds allegedly took steroids. Barry Bonds does not have a MLB offer because, plain and simple, MLB teams think he is shot as a big-time player. On top, Bonds is still asking for big-time player cash for his faltering services.

If Barry Bonds could still play every day, hit 40 homers and knock in 120 runs, you had better believe that there would be suitors, steroids or not. That is reality, a dirty reality to be sure, but MLB is a bottom-line business. MLB has proven, if nothing else, they will look the other so long as players are jacking longballs, striking out hitters, and putting asses in seats.

So Barry Bonds waits, in the final inning of his career, hoping for one last shot in MLB. No favors will be granted for a variety of reasons from MLB for the surly Bonds. An era is closing, MLB hopes, and why go back to the future, especially one filled with despair and tarnish.

Who's Hot
Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder is now hitting .353 with five spring home runs and 12 RBI.

Who's Not
Who would have thought that Barry Bonds could not get a job at any price?

On Thursday the Nationals released vereran righthander John Patterson. Patterson was expected to be the team's ace this season, but after coming off a lost 2007 season that saw him miss most of the campaign due to a nerve problem in his pitching forearm. His fastball appears to have lost some juice so he is looking for a job.

Around the League:

Atlanta Braves
According to reports out of Atlanta, Braves ace right-hander John Smoltz may begin the regular season on the disabled list due to a shoulder injury. Corey Patterson now appears to be the frontrunner to be the Reds' starting center fielder.

Chicago White Sox
The White Sox have reportedly taken second baseman Juan Uribe off the waiver wire. Uribe apparently drew interest from an unidentified team, so Chicago will now attempt to work out a deal.

Cincinnati Reds
Scott Hatteberg went 1-1 with a double and his average now sits at a nifty .405. while rookie Joey Votto is hitting some .186. Since Reds manager Dusty Baker loves veterans, don't be surprised if Hatteberg gets the nod at first base on Opening Day.

The Reds on Thursday sent top prospect Jay Bruce to their minor league camp.

Florida Marlins
Marlins infielder Jorge Cantu appears to have won the starting job at third base

LA Dodgers
Still fighting for the No. 5 starter job with the Dodgers, Korean right-hander Chan Ho Park gave up three earned runs on three hits and three walks in four innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday
.

Outfielder Andre Ethier could be on the verge of stealing the left-field job away from veteran Juan Pierre. We may be looking for a trade to happen soon if he does as Pierre is not happy. Ethier is hitting .345 with five home runs and 14 runs batted in

Toronto Blue Jays
The AP is reporting that Blue Jays' closer B.J. Ryan will be held out of the next few games after experiencing soreness in his throwing forearm.

Up Close and Personal – Rocco Baldelli Interview
Interview By: Althea Pashman

Rocco Baldelli’s health is one of the biggest question marks the Rays have this spring.  He appeared in only 127 of 486 games the past three seasons because of an assortment of injuries.  Baldelli has been a major disappointment since signing a long-term deal in November 2005 and there was much hoopla as to why the team would make such a commitment to someone who had just missed the entire 2005 from a torn ACL and a torn rotator cuff.  Heading into spring training, the Rays have asked Baldelli to pace himself during spring training, something that Baldelli has never had to do..... complete interview

About this week's guest author: Freddy C has watched more NBA, NFL and baseball than a human being should be allowed to. I have seen them all from Dr.J to Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady and even the controversial A-Rod. Some old-schoolers would have you think that the players from years ago were better, but guys like Dwyane Wade (even though he gets super friendly with Chuck in those ads—brunch, suit-shopping, etc. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, Jerry), Peyton Manning and Manny Ramirez would be great in any era.

I like to think I have mad hops on the computer, but my sports skills…mmm, let’s say I should stick to writing. I love the NBA, NFL and baseball, and since you’re here, I’m guessing you share the passion
