Weekly: A Different Type of Season for the Giants
By: Sara Kwan
The San
Francisco Giants have certainly had a different type of season than they’re
used to. The team that prided itself on winning records with big homeruns
and big players has suddenly turned into the complete opposite. But that’s
not to say that the clubhouse atmosphere has been a negative one this
season.
For veteran
Aaron Rowand, who has been on winning teams with a clubhouse full of
veterans, and on teams similar to the 2008 Giants, there are tremendous
differences between the clubhouse atmosphere, but every team always shares a
common goal, which is winning ballgames.....

Upon Further Review:
2008 Predictions Welcome to the latest edition of "Upon Further Review" as
this is my final warm-up before the regular season starts and my
last chance to get into mid-season form.
The
preseason has come and gone. Yes, I know there is still one more preseason
game left to play for everyone but let's be serious here... this game is
less than a preseason game, it’s strictly a glorified scrimmage. So, with
that in mind I will give you all my predictions for the year...

The Armchair QB: 2008 College Football Season Preview
I look at my calendar,
it says Tuesday, August 5, 2008. Just over three weeks away until I get to
sit down and watch the 2008 season get underway. When I last left, LSU won
the Bowl Championship Series crown, thumping Ohio State by fourteen points.
Since then, the Tigers lost Ryan Perrilloux because he can’t behave himself,
Michigan have a new coach in Rich Rodriguez, the usual amount of players
getting arrested for fighting in a bar, carrying a gun, or smoking weed. In
short, your typical college football offseason that reminds me of those
trashy television daytime talk shows.... more

MLB Insider: Chicago – Cuban Style…
Dogs Days of Summer… Rays’ Rock The House Mark Cuban is still alive, well and remains among the potential buyers
for the Chicago Cubs. Cuban survived the first cut of the original list of
10 prospective buyers to make the final five.
TheChicago Sun Times
reported that the Tribune Company which owns the franchise
acknowledged that the six remaining potential buyers all have submitted bids
of $1-billion or more. However, according to the Sun-Times Cuban is
not the favorite son of the MLB owners because of his outspoken ways. Case
in point, Cuban has been fined in excess of $1-million dollars for his
frequent criticism of NBA officials since buying the Mavericks in 2000

Speaking of Sports: TRS: The Real
Story Behind the Garza-Navarro Meeting The Tampa Bay Sports Net has in its possession the
conversations between Rays’ pitcher Matt Garza and catcher Dioner Navarro on
the mound, when Garza got a close-up look at what Navarro wears on his face,
in the dugout when they met again and in the runway leading to the visitor’s
clubhouse.
Without anyone’s knowledge, a
miniature microphone was cleverly embedded in the catcher's mask padding and
every word was heard across the Gulf of Mexico (when you are in an area
loaded with 1,000-5,000 watt radio stations, you know you can hear them
further out in the water to the west than you do over land to the east).
So without further adieu, TBSN brings
you the complete blow-by-blow from start to finish.

Thinking Out Loud: Going To Hell In
a Handbasket Almost a month ago I penned a piece about the entertainment at Tropicana
Field – (Rays Missing a Beat on In-house Fun) - and how the departure of
John Franzone, a.k.a John the Maestro, has left a huge void inside the
stadium.
Having been inside the House of the Tilted Roof this entire homestand, there
has been something else that has been gnawing at me but I just couldn't put
my finger on it until Sunday's homestand finale with the White Sox....

Thinking Out Loud: The Wacky World
of the Steinbrenner’s
Answer me this? How am I to explain
Hank Steinbrenner to my grandchildren?
It's bad enough that I raised a son
who became a Yankee fan - it was a Mets' household until I moved to Florida
to join BaysBall Nation, and the so-called smart one of the twins went to
the dark side (of New York blue) - but what's up with the new mouth of the
north?
It appears for all all intents and
purposes the little Hankie has all of his father's mouth but not the sense
of his brother Hal, the Quiet Man, a dozen years his junior.
Not one month into the season the
team's co-chairman effectively called his new manager an idiot....

NFC West 2008
NFL Preview
The NFC West is not quite the doormat it once was, they can thank the AFC West
for that, however it is still not a strong division and although it is predicted
every year, we think this is finally the year the Cardinals come out on top of
the division...
Three years ago, the
Houston Rockets teamed up
superstars Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, with nary a single series win to show for
it so far. Apparently brass has decided that they need a third superstar to make
the next step to join the elite teams, enter Ron Artest.
Houston has reached a deal with the Kings for the moody forward, sending Donte
Greene, Bobby Jackson and a first-round draft choice to Sacramento. The trade
can't be official until August 14th due to a league rule the prevents players
from being traded within 30 days of signing a contract (which Greene did
mid-July), but Houston fans are already abuzz at Artest's impending arrival...more

Richie Sexson of the woeful Seattle Mariners is simply the latest example of the
silliness of Major League Baseball's love affair with high-priced superstars

American League West Division was tied for the second worst in the majors, a
whopping 20 games BEHIND the league-leading Los Angeles Angels at Anaheim, who
are 57-38...more

Recently Tiger has been roaring, dominating the PGA as if he was invincible.

NBA Age Limit - A Blessing in
Disguise
The 2007 NBA draft class was the most hyped and highly covered
of any draft class in the last five years and maybe even this
decade - and 9 of the 10 first picks were still teenagers.
Something very profound has occurred in the NBA in the past two
years due in large part to the new rule that disallows any high
school student from entering the NBA draft until they are 19
years old...more

It's time to make it legal Steroids,
Doping, Gambling, Dog Fighting,
and everything else. American
sports fans have lived through a
few months of hell and some of
it needs to be fixed. How to do
that? Legalize it.
A few weeks ago we talked about the case against Michael Vick.
Since then, sports in general have suffered through some of the
worst scandals in the shortest time. Point shaving, dog
fighting, blood doping, its an epidemic at this point and its
time someone does something.
NASCAR placed Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards on probation for the next six races of the Sprint Cup Series after the two traded intentional bumps following Saturday's Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
Dallas Cowboys fans still have a few months left to worship their team at the famed Texas Stadium, but the days of free-for-all tailgating in the parking lots immediately surrounding Irving's legendary landmark are already over.
The story, as told by Shawn Johnson, goes like this: She was headed to David Letterman's show Monday from Chicago when the airline reported a problem.
Apparently, the pilot had an incident when he heard Johnson was on his plane.
"I guess he just like freaked out and hit his head," Johnson said Tuesday to a crowd of thousands in her first appearance back to her hometown. "They had to take him to the hospital for stitches."
