The first
trading cards were issued
in the mid to late 1880s
and were included free as
a bonus in tobacco or cigarette
products, which made them
hard for non-smokers and
youngsters to obtain and
collect. Hard to believe
that this was the only way
to collect baseball cards
in the beginning and how
far we have come today.
Visit the collecting section
here regularly as we delve
into the world of sports
collecting.

Fan Speaks Out

Don’t Throw Those Old Cards
Away…
If riding your bike with the baseball cards stuck in the spokes evokes memories
in you, times certainly
have changed. Sports memorabilia
is big business these days
generating more than two
and a half billion dollars
a year in revenue.
A big part of the market is adults trying to relive their childhood, according
to Alan Rosen, known as
“Mr. Mint” and the largest
buyer of vintage baseball
cards and memorabilia. “The
collector recaptures a piece
of his youth in this business,”

Gas is up to $3.79 per gallon here in southern Indiana. I think that's the national average. Bought dog food last night and it's up to over $40 per 35-pound bag for the premium brands....
Who sells what on eBay--and where are they located?
Collecting
question of the month
With so many choices
on the market today, what
should I collect?
Collect
what you enjoy collecting,
whether it's rookies or
certain players or a certain
team or autographed cards
or game used cards. Years
ago, collectors used to
just collect "error" cards.
Some collectors in the 1960s
only collected "food-issue"
cards, meaning cards issued
by companies such as Wheaties,
Post Cereal and Kellogg's.
Many collectors today only
collect Vintage cards, meaning
cards prior to the 1970s.
The choices
of various cards on the
market should not confuse
you, as much as they should
offer you opportunity to
choose what you prefer to
collect.

When
it comes to “Collecting”
memorabilia, whether it
is cards, jerseys, autographs
or the many other areas
of “collectibles” it’s important
that you go to the various
“sources” and do some research
before you spend your hard
earned money.
In our “Collectors
Tools” section, we have
provided you with the “tools”
that you’ll most frequently
need… Team addresses to
contact your favorite players,
various collecting magazines
links, and much more.
If some of
the “tools” that you use
are not listed, and feel
that they are an integral
part of collecting, drop
us a note with the name
and link of your “collectors’
link” and we’ll be more
than happy to add it to
our list.
